USS John S. McCain Returns from Comprehensive at-Sea Testing


YOKOSUKA, Japan (Nov. 3, 2019) The Arleigh Burke class guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56), sits pierside at Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Nov. 3, 2019, after successfully conducting comprehensive at-sea testing. This was the first underway for John S. McCain since its collision in 2017. John S. McCain is assigned to Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15 and forward-deployed to Yokosuka, Japan. (U. S. [Narrator] USS John S. McCain returned to Fleet Activities Yokosuka today from successful at-sea testing, which puts the ship one step closer to returning to the fleet combat-ready.

I’m proud to share with you that this ship and this crew performed exceptionally well, and the Big Bad John is living up to the fighting spirit of her namesakes.

[Narrator] McCain has also received extensive accelerated upgrades during its repair, which will allow it to complete missions of increased capability, sustainability, and lethality following its return to the operational fleet.

As we look forward toward the future and return to sea with confidence, USS John S. McCain and her crew will once again contribute to our Forward Deployed Naval Forces, protecting peace and prosperity for all nations.
