And the Like | A Bible Class on the Works of the Flesh and the Fruit of the Spirit

The final works of the flesh Paul mentioned are “and the like.” “The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God” (Gal 5:19-21).

The Greek term for “like” is homoios. It is the word from which we get the prefix- “homo,” which means same. E.g., homosexuality, homogeneous, etc. The idea obviously is sins comparable to sins Paul just mentioned.

How do we know which sins are “like” the ones Paul mentioned?

If Paul doesn’t specify these sins, how are we to know what they are?

How do such sins impact the church?

How can we keep ourselves from “and the like?”

This Bible class was originally taught by Dr. Justin Imel, Sr., at Church of Christ Deer Park in Deer Park, Texas.
