Dissensions – Bible Class on the Works of the Flesh and the Fruit of the Spirit

Dissensions | Bible Class on the Works of the Flesh and the Fruit of the Spirit

The next work of the flesh Paul mentioned is dissension/discord. “The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God” (Gal 5:19–21).

The Greek term—dichostasia—occurs a total of two times in the Greek New Testament. The verbal cognate means to stand apart. “I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them” (Rom 16:17). Galatians 5:20.

What are the dangers of division in the church? What are some examples of division in the church? How can churches keep from being divided?

This Bible class was originally taught by Dr. Justin Imel, Sr., at Church of Christ Deer Park in Deer Park, Texas.
