Good day, I’m David Ginn, I’m a Physician Assistant. I’m joined by—

Andrew Littlefield, EMT Basic.

Today we will be demonstrating the proper donning of PPE in a healthcare setting, in accordance with the Virgin Islands Department of Health, EMS and CDC in response to COVID-19. The first step is to make sure that the surface that you’re gonna put your PPE on has been properly decontaminated. We’re using a germicide that requires a three-minute contact time. That’s been previously completed, and PPE was in place. We’re gonna now remove any personal items we have, such as watches, rings, things of that nature. Next, we’re going to inspect our PPE, to make sure it’s serviceable, there’s no rips, tears, it doesn’t appear to be previously used. After that, we’re gonna perform hand hygiene. We’re using a 70% alcohol gel solution. After that’s completed, we’re going to put on the inner set of gloves. We’re using a nitrile glove. Once the gloves are on, we’re gonna put on our gown, or coveralls. I will assist with doing the neck portion of this. Once the coveralls are on, or the gown, now we’re gonna put on our properly fit-tested N95 respirator, making sure that the metallic or the nose portion of the respirator is facing up, over our nose, and you have a proper seal. Next step is to put on a face shield, or in this case, goggles. We’re now gonna put on an outer layer of gloves. Lastly, we’re gonna perform hand hygiene once more. 20 seconds has elapsed, and this concludes the proper donning of PPE in a healthcare setting related to a COVID-19 response. Thanks, everybody.
