At the Luxembourg American Cemetery, we have over 5,000 service members buried here. For the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, we placed candles at every single headstone to really show how many service members are out there at night and we can still see every single one of those candles lit to represent each of those service members that are buried here. The U.S. service members that came through here 75 years ago in 1944 liberated the country of Luxembourg. We remember what those veterans that came before us have done, the sacrifice and the loss that these service members, really, there’s a legacy that’s left behind. And that legacy is passed on to those visitors that come to these ceremonies and hear their stories. Time will not dim the glory of their deeds and that candle placed at that headstone, as it’s lit out there, is showing that time is not dimming the glory of their deeds.
