Cmdr. Alexander Mamikonian, Commanding officer of the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108), describes the Wayne E. Meyer’s mission. Wayne E. Meyer is underway conducting operations in the Indo-Pacific region while assigned to Destroyer Squadron (DESRON 15), the Navy’s largest forward-deployed DESRON and the U.S. 7th Fleet’s principal surface force. This is Commander Alexander Mamikonian, Commanding Officer of USS Wayne E. Meyer Arleigh Burke-class destroyer deployed to seventh fleet. Forward deployed Naval forces are a strategic option as the ships are already in a position to adapt to ever changing mission sets. We’re out here building regional partnerships in the Indo-Pacific to deter aggression and strengthen partnerships. Whether we’re operating with partner Navies or conducting unit level training, every ship CO strives to be out here, be able to exercise their crew.
