I’m Francis Roy McFadden. Former title is Command Sergeant Major, now Command Sergeant Major Retired. I graduated the Q Course in February 1982 and came to this unit the same month, shortly thereafter. Fifth Group’s been around since September of 1961. Do the math that’s 58 years. I’ve been a part of this unit for 36 of it. It means everything to me to be a member of this unit. There’s no other unit like it in the United States Army. Started in September 11, 2001, shortly thereafter in October. Been in combat ever since. No other unit in the United States Army has been in combat this long, ever. I’d say just more than anything else this is my family.
