[Narrator] The passing of the guidon symbolizes the passing of the duties and responsibilities associated with this very important position. Master Sergeant Schmidt passes the guidon to First Sergeant Gomez in final deference to his authority and leadership. First Sergeant Gomez passes the guidon to Captain Schneider, Headquarters Company Commander, signifying a relinquishing of his duties and gratitude for the opportunity to care for the Headquarters Company’s fine soldiers. Captain Schneider passes the guidon to First Sergeant Belcher delegating authority and entrusting her with the responsibility and care of the organization. First Sergeant Belcher then passes the guidon back to Master Sergeant Schmidt symbolizing her dedication to the soldiers of Headquarters Company in continuity of the NCO support channel.

Over the last 24 months, First Sergeant Gomez has been the bedrock of this whole organization, providing the over 500 military service members and civilians spread across 20 countries an unshakeable foundation to grow as the largest stations and leaders.

I could not have asked for a better Commander. To the mighty First Team, it’s been an honor to serve you as your First Sergeant. Though it saddens me to relinquish responsibility to such a great group of officers, non-commissioned officers, and soldiers, I have no concerns as I know you are in great hands with First Sergeant Belcher. There is no doubt in my mind that she will continue to lead this organization to new heights.

Thank you First Sergeant for allowing me to inherit a successful Company, and I look forward to building upon that foundation in which you laid. It is important to maintain continuity, but it is just and important to welcome change. I look forward to serving along side Captain Schneider and enhancing the proficiency of the 1st TSC. The 1st TSC has a history of great leadership and I will continue that leadership as the first honor. First Team! Patton’s Own! Spartan 7! Signing off.
