Maryland National Guard Welcomes New Adjutant General

Members of the Maryland National Guard (MDNG), friends and family gathered at the 5th Regiment Armory in Baltimore, to attend a change of command ceremony that formalized the transition of command within the Maryland Military Department (MMD) September 14, 2019.

The ceremony represented the orderly transition of one commander to another through the passing of colors representing the organization. The outgoing commander, Maj. Gen. Linda L. Singh received the colors from the Maryland National Guard’s Senior Enlisted Leader, Command Sgt. Maj. Perlisa D. Wilson. Singh, then passed the organization’s colors to Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan who then passed the colors to the new commander, Maj. Gen. Timothy E. Gowen.

[Announcer] Soldiers of the Maryland Army National Guard, we put our hope, and we put our trust in you. In your name we pray. Amen. Please be seated.

What so proudly we hailed At the twilight’s last gleaming And the home of the brave

[Announcer] Who will, in turn, pass to Governor Hogan, signifying the relinquishing of command. Governor Hogan will then pass the flag to Major General Gowan, entrusting him with the responsibility of command. Major General Gowan will return the colors to Command Sergeant Major Wilson to ensure their safekeeping. …colors. As such, the flag representing the Maryland Military Department will pass from Command Sergeant Major Wilson to General Singh, who will, in turn, pass to Governor Hogan, signifying the relinquishing of command. Governor Hogan will then pass the flag to Major General Gowan, entrusting him with the responsibility of command. Major General Gowan will return the colors to Command Sergeant Major Wilson to ensure their safekeeping. Maryland Army National Guard order number 215-104, dated 3 August 2019. Linda Lee Singh, you are separated from the Maryland Army National Guard, Joint Force Headquarters, Fifth Regiment Armory, and retired, effective 31 August 2019, per National Guard Regulation 635-100, in the grade of Major General, to proceed to your home of selection.
