Hello, I’m Kernel Brian Shivers, Commander of the First Combat Aviation Brigade, First Infantry Division. September is suicidal awareness and prevention month and is an integral part of the Army’s Ready and Resilient campaign. Our soldiers are our most precious resource and just one suicide is too many. We must be there for each other and always be prepared to respond to a friend or battle buddy in need. If you encounter a suicide situation, remember ACE: Ask, Care, Escort. Ask to make sure someone is okay. Care for them, and Escort them to get appropriate help, help they may need. If you or someone you know is feeling distressed, hopeless, or thinking about death, please don’t be afraid to reach out. You can also call the suicide prevention hotline at 1-800-273-TALK. As soldiers and leaders, we must be there for one another at our best and our worst times. Duty first, above the first, victory.
