Dr. Love takes a moment to discuss the importance of knowing what to do in this situation. A riptide may pull you away from the shore, but it will not pull you under the water, so stay calm and swim parallel to the shore.

Dr. Love here, to survive a riptide stay calm and swim parallel to the shore. These two guys decided to take a swim in this calm ocean, but it’s not really calm. In the water is a riptide waiting to carry them out to sea. The powerful currents of a riptide pulling you away from the shore and swimming directly against the current can lead to exhaustion and drowning. Instead, stay calm and signal for help. The riptide is pulling you away from the shore, but it is not pulling you under the water. Calmly swim parallel to the shore. Even though you are still being pulled away from the shore you will eventually swim out of the riptide area then you can swim toward the shore. Remember to survive a riptide stay calm and swim parallel to the shore. You guys are great. I loved working with you but you’re just a little bit tight. You look like zombies out there.
