Topical Sermon on the Church | The Need for Evangelism

The Need for Evangelism

The Need for Evangelism

Why Should the Church Care for the Lost?

Jesus did.

John 4—The woman at the well. John 8—The woman caught in adultery.

Jesus knew that workers are needed (Matt 9:35-38).

He taught us that we should go (Matt 28:19-20).

God desires that people be saved (2 Pet 3:9).

Being lost is a horrible condition.

Being lost means being without Christ, without hope, and without God (Eph 2:12). Hell is a real place (Lk 16:19ff).

Without the Gospel, people are really lost.

1 Thessalonians 2:14-16. If someone has never heard the Gospel, that person is lost!

Gratitude.

We have been saved, and we should want others to be saved as well. Matthew 10:8.

Our own salvation depends on our evangelistic activities.

Ezra 33:1-9. Acts 20:26-27. Acts 18:6.

Why Do We Sometimes Not Show This Concern?

We get caught up in daily affairs and forget heavenly things.

We feel inadequate. We feel we can’t do much about the masses going to hell. We feel we don’t know enough.

We like to think it’s not my responsibility.

How Can We Help Evangelize?

Set an example (1 Pet 3:1-2).

Teach (Col 1:28-29; Acts 8:4).

Do whatever we can. World Bible School. Passing out tracts.
