“Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” How could a Cretan be a prophet? Does this prophecy mean that the Cretan who said these words was inspired? Why would Paul give approval to such a sweeping generalization of Cretans? Why would Paul include a quote that seems to be nothing more than name calling? What are some of the characteristics of a liar? Paul has already mentioned deceivers. Is there a difference between a liar and a deceiver? If so, what is that difference?
