The Church as Family (1 Timothy 5:1-2)

Why should Timothy not rebuke an older man? Later in this same chapter, Paul told Timothy to rebuke those who persisted in sin (v 20). Is Paul being consistent? What if the one persisting in sin was an older man? Why did Timothy need to exhort older men as fathers?

Why would Timothy need to encourage younger men as brothers? What would be involved in encouraging younger men as brothers? How can you encourage younger men as brothers?

Why should Timothy encourage older women as mothers?

Why should Timothy encourage younger women as sisters? Why would Paul specify that Timothy needed to treat these younger women with all purity? What steps can be taken to treat people with purity?
