Division Among the People (John 7:40-52)

Why did some people believe that Jesus was really the Prophet? Where did the idea that the Messiah would be “the Prophet” originate? What is a prophet? Why was it necessary (Was it necessary) that the Christ be a prophet?

Some claimed that Jesus was the Christ. If the Christ and the Prophet were one and the same, why did the people apparently differentiate between these different roles/titles? Should the people have understood that the Christ and the Prophet were one and the same?

“Is the Christ to come from Galilee? Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the offspring of David, and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David was?” Did Jesus come from Bethlehem? Why did the people not know this? Should they have known this? Did Jesus come from Galilee? In what way(s) did Jesus come from Galilee?

The people were divided over Jesus. Are people still divided over Jesus? Why does Jesus bring division?

Would you not have loved to have been a fly on the wall when the officers came back empty handed?

Why did the officers understand that Jesus spoke in a way that no one else had ever spoken?

What caused the Pharisees to believe that the officers had been deceived?

Had any of the authorities or Pharisees believed on Jesus?

Why might Nicodemus have wanted Jesus to have a fair hearing? Did Jesus ever get that fair hearing?

Why did the scribes and Pharisees believe that no prophet arose from Galilee?
