A Good Servant of Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 4:6-10)

Paul in a subtle way tells Timothy to “put these things before the brothers.” What things need Timothy need to put before the brothers? When would Timothy put these things before the brothers?

If Timothy put these things before the brothers, he would “be a good servant of Christ Jesus.” If the Christian has been called to freedom (Galatians 5:13), how would Timothy be a “servant” of Jesus? What are some of the qualities of a good servant of Jesus Christ? What do you need to do in your life to become a good servant of Jesus Christ?

To be a good servant of Christ Jesus, Timothy needed to be “trained in the words of the faith and of the good doctrine” he had followed. How can one be trained in the words of the faith?

How can one be trained in the words of “the good doctrine?”

Timothy was to have nothing to do with irreverent and silly myths. How can myths be irreverent? How can myths by silly? What might be some examples of modern irreverent, silly myths?

Timothy needed to train himself for goodliness. Why is it necessary that one train himself for goodliness? How can one train himself for goodliness?

Timothy could find some value in bodily training. Why is there only “some value” in bodily training? What value might one find in bodily training?

Goodliness is of value in every way. How is goodliness of value in every way? How does godliness hold promise for the present life?

What is the promise for the life to come?

How was the saying trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance?

Paul toiled and strove because he had set his hope on the living God. Why would Paul and his companions toil and strive because they had set their hope on God? In what way(s) did Paul toil and strive? What is the hope we have in the living God? Why is it important to have hope in the living God? Would it be possible to have hope in a dead God? Why or why not?

God is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe. Is God really the Savior of all people?

  • Will God save even those who do not obey him?
