How did Lazarus’ sickness “not lead to death?”

Why does the text say that Jesus loved Mary, Martha and Lazarus? Doesn’t Jesus love everyone? How was his love for this family different? Is it acceptable to have a different love for different people?

If Jesus loved Lazarus, why did he stay two more days when he heard that Lazarus was sick?

Why would Jesus’ disciples believe that Jesus “meant taking rest in sleep?” Why would Jesus travel a day’s journey just to wake Lazarus from sleep? Granted, they may have understood Jesus’ waking Lazarus as an act of healing – i.e., Jesus was going to wake Lazarus by healing him. However, we can’t overlook the fact that the disciples are often depicted as being “dim” and slow to believe.

Why would Martha immediately run to greet Jesus?

Do you think Martha intended her words at verse 21 to have been a rebuke of Jesus?

How much hope do you think Martha might have had that Jesus could possibly raise her brother?
