Comfort Connections: Chaplain Foster

LCDR Devon Foster, a U.S. Navy chaplain, talks about his experience going home during the hospital ship USNS Comfort’s medical mission in Kingston, Jamaica, November 2, 2019. Comfort is working with health and government partners in Central America, South America, and the Caribbean to provide care on the ship and at land-based medical sites, helping to relieve pressure on national healthcare systems, including those strained by an increase in cross-border migrants. My name is Devon Foster, I’m a lieutenant Commander in The United States Navy and I currently serve as Command Chaplain on board. I was born in Jamaica West Indies, Saint Catherine. I feel very excited, It’s like I’m living a dream to some extant. Growing up here, I never in Jamaica, never thought I would have this opportunity. I left Jamaica when I was 13 years old, so to be able to come back and to, on a mission like this, is incredible. It’s an opportunity of a life time, I feel blessed, I feel honored. I’m thankful for America for open it’s doors to my family, so I am thankful for that opportunity that America’s given me and for all the opportunity to go and serve so many people.
