BEAST Training

United States Air Force Chiefs from across Air Education and Training Command participate in the Basic Expeditionary Airman Skills and Training, or BEAST course October 24, 2019, at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland’s Medina Annex. The BEAST expeditionary event is a culminating readiness course accomplished by Basic Military Training trainees one week prior to the 37th Training Wing’s BMT graduation, to ensure the preparedness of our next-generation Airmen, and increase lethality and readiness.

But getting out there and seeing what our airmen are being trained on, we talk about lethality, we talk about readiness and continuing to move this needle forward. And this is a challenging course, and I’m glad our (mumbles) got to experience that. So the beast continues to be spun up to become a little bit more difficult. Our airmen are experiencing it, this has become the culminating part of their BMT experience. And then after they leave here, their going right into graduation. So I can imagine, covered in sand, dirt and then leaving here with that sense of fulfillment, that they accomplished something.

You know, we all went through this same dirt before. We’ve all gotten dirty here before. We can never forget where we came from. I think that’s a bit important, right. And to earn that title of airman and to kinda re-earn it every day. But getting out here and mix it up with the same things, we ask our airmen who are joining our Airforce to do. It’s pretty good to kinda rekindle that team spirit, that warrior feeling, to face the obstacles and challenges upon you. And to do it together, to encourage each other. It’s pretty neat.

So this is exciting stuff and I would tell any supervisor who’s getting an airman fresh out of basic training, out of tech training, that their getting some ready and lethal airmen. (dramatic music)
