Annie VanArmen finds a family in Vehicle Maintenance

“My favorite thing about working for Vehicle Maintenance is the close family dynamic. That was really attractive to me when I first was picking what shop I wanted to work at. Everyone is just a true family here.”

Senior Airman Annie VanArmen works in the 110th Logistics Readiness Squadron as a Vehicle Maintenance Journeyman at Battle Creek Air National Guard Base, Mich., Oct. 26, 2019. VanArman works with eight other people and is one of two female Airmen in her shop. The shop maintains and repairs over 80 vehicles across the 110th Wing. VanArmen has worked in Vehicle Maintenance for three years. Always on the go, she loves jobs with constant movement and hands-on tasks. She is currently going to school to become a nurse at Kellogg Community College and is expected to graduate in May 2020.

A believer in the power of positive thinking, VanArmen’s motto for life can be summed up with a favorite quote by Henry Ford: “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t–you’re right.” (U.S. Air National Guard photo by Staff Sgt. Jacob Cessna/released)

I love working here at vehicle maintenance ’cause it’s like a family to me. I felt welcome ever since I started my journey here with the Air Force. Lot of people are father figures here, and I’ve got like, one sister, couple brothers, couple crazy uncles, and you learn a little bit from everyone. I’m newer here compared to other people that have been here, so a lot of people say I’m just like a spring chicken, and all of them are just kinda old roosters just like, looking out for me. I’m Senior Airman Annie VanArmen, I work for the 110th wing at vehicle maintenance.
