I am Personnel Specialist Bernie Hinojosa onboard the USNS Comfort, and I’m actually from the Dominican Republic. When I found out that I was coming to the Dominican Republic, I was super excited ’cause I was gonna see my family for the first time after 10 years. I can’t even find the words to describe how amazing it is. It was wonderful. I was super happy. I was in tears. My family was in tears. But it was amazing, an amazing feeling. So the first day we had a typical breakfast which is mangu con los tres golpes. It includes some salami, eggs, cheese, and it was amazing. We were sharing and everything, and it was just great. I got to introduce them to my chiefs and the people I work with, and they were really proud of meeting them. I’m proud to represent the Dominican Republic and the United States Navy.
