[Major Mark O’Driscoll] The Marine Corp Shooting Team wants good Marines, first and foremost. We need Marines that are professional and competent, that can represent our Marine Corps at national, international, and interservice competitions.
[Sergeant Jerrod Adams] The best part about being on the Marine Corp Pistol Team is just seeing improvement of shooters. We go out, and we instruct for these two-week periods. You’ll see that brand-new shooter that has never even shot a pistol. Then, in the two-week period of us instructing, you’ll see that shooter run around comfortably with a gun and be able to maintain accurate shots and speed at the same time.
[Major] We supervise four regional marksmanship competitions a year. These four marksmanship competitions is an opportunity for command to send Marines for advanced marksmanship training, annual rifle and annual pistol qualifications.
[Sergeant] Permanent personnel on the Marine Corps shooting team… You have to have good physical fitness, look good in uniform, have good fit, and pros and cons. Then, distinguish yourself in marksmanship and show that you are a good shooter.
[Major] Obviously, we need Marines that can shoot. We need Marines that can distinguish themselves, both on duty at Marine Corps marksmanship competitions, and off duty, in their own time, to show that they are lethal behind the weapon system, be that a rifle, pistol, or shotgun.
