Peter’s Denials (John 18:15-27)

A disciple knew the high priest and went with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest. Do you think this disciple might have been approached to betray Jesus? Why do you think he might not be afraid to enter the courtyard (especially after Jesus has talked about the disciples’ being killed)?

Why would Peter want to deny that he is a disciple of Jesus? Notice that the other disciple is apparently known as a disciple of Jesus and that nothing ill has befallen him. Peer pressure can be negative or positive. Why do you think “peer pressure” from the other disciple did not help Peter remain strong?

How had Jesus spoken “openly to the world?”

Why do you think the officer struck Jesus with the palm of his hand?

What do you think might have gone through Peter’s mind when he heard the rooster crow?
