Ladies and gentlemen, the retired official for today’s ceremony. Colonel, Anthony Ferris, right, can everybody hear me? Yes. I’m trying to do this without the without the aid of notes, but priority. I may go back. So first I just wanted to say welcome to everybody. And uh my name is Colonel Anthony parish Tony parents. And when I last fourth Marine Corps uniform, I was serving as the Assistant Chief of Staff Chief four for secondary aircraft. Over the last three years I’ve been wearing a civilian uniform every day and I’m currently serving as deputy director of facilities at the Marine Corps air station SharePoint. Before I begin, I want to first say thank you to jerry. I mean to ask me to be his retiring officers. Incredible the privilege. Thank you very much along with that from a few other banks. Thanks for give me a heads up, allow me some time to fit back into this uniform. I’ve not been in this uniform for only eight years, have been some other uniforms, but not just I’ve not had a Marine Corps haircut in three years. Thank you for the opportunity on behalf of my wife for the opportunity to have The ability to foster a 50 year old for a one year period. Yeah, yeah. Over the past year, jerry’s been down here working with the mask on and off about a year and we live in New Bern about every weekend and we encourage it and we enjoy, so don’t get me wrong. But even up there every weekend and just like my own kids, he doesn’t like to make the bed, doesn’t drinks all my beard. Thank you very much. I should say Thank you Paula. Actually also like to take a moment to walk with a few special guests. Yeah, the pharmacy then general control as general Donovan. Yeah. General in here. You guys have very busy schedules. This is scheduled as your office system. A very senior listed senior officers out here and folks who took time off from their civilian positions taken all the way down here from Cherry Point. So thank you for taking time today and then on your remiss if I didn’t mention the fact that jerry has a lot of family and friends have traveled from the far his mom and son coming from Texas and an uncle in from Florida, some friends in from D. C. And Virginia area of course his wife Paula and there are good friend angel coming all the way from our age. That’s that’s pretty incredible. That’s a testament to you, your professionalism and friendship. Yeah. Extraordinarily Building a retirement. I start by saying we’re here to celebrate 20 25 in this case. 30 years of faithful, honorable, dedicated service the United States. Mhm. And as today there’s a lot more Jerry had two parallel careers. It won’t the Marine Corps most of those we’re dedicated to supporting and defending America from all enemies. Foreign minister and so I’m going to touch them a bit. His career carried him across the country many, many times Around the world. He’s visited six out of seven continents has been in an official capacity. The 54 nations And my number might be slightly off but there’s 194 sovereign nations in the world. So more than 25 of those. Yeah, some have not been so nice. So, Somalia have engaged north Korea. Somebody’s switching France Italy and some of unexpected unexpectedly account places that you’ve learned to love and giving me a special treat. Such a bahrain where you might right. The other thing unique about jerry’s career is, here’s a reserve marine who has accumulated Nearly 20 years of activity because the reserve marine, that’s pretty impressive. And probably as importantly is probably more importantly, He has more than five years towards I retired three million years. Mhm. Anybody in this room have had more, But I don’t have five years of employee time after 29 years of active service. So that’s, that’s really a testament to your dedication. The meds uh with that said, I would like to do try to briefly do this. I will skin the edges. It was, but I’d like to run down jerry’s career kind of highlight what I mean by he is continually focused on supporting defense. Yeah. And it all starts in 1992 when I was firstly I was assaulted first lieutenant paris and I was meeting this boot second and when the first combination you pretend Jerry Opinions a logistics officer. He was our maintenance management officer. S four out physical to commander with H and S company. I had an opportunity to deploy the Somali with and he did And he really benefited as that I have some tremendous leadership and mentorship that is I’m sure contributed his decision to stay 30 years. But logistics was not his passion. Tell you want to be pushed and fight. Where’s the point? The atmosphere where it sounds the guns must go. Have to make sure I think probably concentrated here. The outstanding. They had an opportunity to have 1/4 air delivery opportunities will be guy. And I had observed God up there in san Jose and now he’s in the action still logistics mission. But you’re doing air delivery, rotary wings, fixed wing aircraft, pushing packages and food. And he’s a bad out of aircraft deliverance of ground. He’s doing external lists, artillery pieces. Nature was murdered when I said so he’s having an action at the end of that still wasn’t quite no, my assessment knowledge, not quite enough. So decided on the shift gears. I’m going to go to get and I’m gonna stay with the rain core. That’s right, that’s true. Years after that counter intel. So he’s protecting us against other nations, You spying on us. How responsive. High register says it is. I’m reinforcing. He has the 3rd force reconnaissance come so I know it rains in here know this to get into an organization. You better be fit and you better be hard for and they are it’s hard getting data from logistics business which I would my experience but he goes from that side of the world to the hard work that you said the next ship he goes to matter of too secondary second battalion brains as R pennsylvania and on the FBI side these shifts gears, counterintelligence has spawned aren’t quite enough form. He goes through the gang task force in D. C. He’s doing investing miss Doran list he’s down at dam neck Virginia with Seal team six trains and lives and he’s doing swat training for the FBI is becoming a part of the swap And they wonder than 9 11 effects. So he and his team they recall back to D. C. And he’s immediately at the pentagon can let them recovery operations and providing medical support for the investigation with patient. It’s just after that he said new york city to continue that supporting those investigations of recovery operation. Right. Yeah right after that he is orient to recourse making plans policy operations. That’s kind of you’re operations the Air Force Marine Corps. As you know this is in the middle when we’ve ranked none of that has happened how we’re gonna call that operations all over the world. It’s a very dynamic period. I end up in the Philippines function of the Horn of Africa and everyone knows about Iraq and Afghanistan and there’s many many more so it’s very dynamic time. He ends up being a briefing officer. I think that’s his reserve people. It’s just here’s heads down the street of it. Your place called Lancaster program nationally serving next while he’s doing that. And granted that is two different jobs that are important on the FBI said first is part of the attorney general. Security was a member of the primary medical that security. He’s trapped road with Attorney General Ashcroft and Gonzalez as well as the deputy and the deputy director and the director FBI this coordinate security as they move around the world after that. Still watching Mst be he ends up leading a counterintelligence operation. And so I can only is as similar to what I described many there straight spine trying to disrupt this his operation. Don’t tell me. So you know, there’s some more guarded secrets Nigeria. But at this time he wraps up doors and he ends up heading down down to Norfolk Virginia. And that’s what it’s not with Marine Corps real wave. So after he gets down to the Norfolk area, the first thing that happens is mom first threes because he has mobilized to go out to sea. I understand the castle and task force southwest I should say. And he served on the secondary extraction brigade and then want to bring exhibition ford. He’s the director of Afghan training, jeez capitalized three core experience, this tactical weapons proficiency and as law enforcement back because he’s been charged with training first to sit the least regional and national civil police and then establishing and operating I think along with terry who’s out here from our monetary walker, a boot camp essentially those the removal military training center that’s kind of boot camp, a period of capital. They were establishing operating another one task, pretty incredible opportunity and I ran in down there work the same and when he gets back Norfolk, whether the FBI or or what it is a sign white collar, he doesn’t reach out and I know he loved it. Or the indian ocean atmosphere, but it’s not long after that. He’s part of a violent crime organization. Violent crime faster. Should dig it into violent crime organization. Please note operating Virginia Beach and the Greater Hampton Roads there shortly after that he finds out you’ve been selectively to see a of that 3rd force encompasses and they’re based on mobile and as an extra gift, you can go ahead and recall that unit and you’re gonna deploy as well start a major flat. These two gentlemen, they head over to Italy. They’re leading this force, this conduct security cooperation all around Africa primarily spoke or they have access to the high speed vessel swift and are moving forces all over and engaging all those in in a car. When we come to that. He’s got a rich with Mark for comin G. Free. Mhm. It’s not long before there’s another four. Yeah And this time he’s mobilized for a period of 18 months seven where she is deploying the bahrain as the deputy commander of task force. Yeah. And so beyond taking advantage of this opportunity to put on serve the nation to be closer to poignant spear every means his lovely by paul. It’s an extra benefit back. Shortly after coming back he finds out he’s been screened by the command screening board just like first time now at the kernel level he’s the deputy director, reserve deputy director of that. Mac Cast the program requires is the O. I. C. Of the reserve detachment there. While he’s doing that, the FBI calls him for one more additional one additional active response. He gets all along with the swat team. He’s got all this sniper here on these boards or with where he’s gotten to respond and support what was a pretty violent interactions with a local ranger, some militia groups and the national wildlife. Of course he sent me some pictures there is in the smell of all the time. Sure we have to get up commanded STB he was mobilized and this guy, you’ve served as the director of plans. They went they were amphibious Force Castro’s 51 My next shepherded. I’m I stayed up so mhm. Here when he returns totally that around honestly reserves that we’re getting close to stretch. He becomes the reserve true master Chief of staff nine months is lost mobilization Activating organisations for about 2009. Pretty impressive. She is globalized again with the intent that he should be the deputy commander of task force 16 6 baseline and hate go over there other events across the globe. And that task force didn’t original but to math had the wind. We decided to keep them on where he served as the this she does an extradition for gay up until about Mhm. So process whole career is whole set of the new skills and experiences. Mr comment either by opening or high the halo. Low opening higher. I’m gonna forget the act. Don’t worry about it. Parachute got sniper swap. T. It is an intern against his private pilot’s license. I thought about it. He knows how to fly a plane and he’s a paramedic. He is on the face of the troop contributor at every level. So it’s been extremely successful 30 year career. Unbelievable jerry. Whether your second lieutenant colonel where there’s a platoon commander or deputy commander and chief of staff, whether he’s leading a counterintelligence operation or serving as a sign President Obama’s inauguration. He doesn’t all they want to closed way. I opened which is actually own our privilege. And look at congratulations Best. I’m gonna need your vote. Yes, was right. Thank you for being here. I should read a class. I was going to get you know, first I want to thank intended to overthrow Mr Major General Don. We left early internet idiotic for setting this up in the breeze. Yeah. Thank you. Bert. You’re a bad team able to last year. Yeah. Play sort of campaign years old. Serving in bahrain the purpose for letter out. Mhm. Her whole could you not brave sailors And then thursday draft equal like California. Really? Obviously girl’s parents over 30 years. Police Foster, a 50 year old car lights. Well. Mhm. And then I will be with this. Come on two. Move out here. Of course the rest of the family. Good stuff. What? My wife bahrain. Mhm. And then family Antonio warriors too in a newborn there over the last year since fire pits, Berninzoni beer at nighttime. Yeah. Cook diversity on saturday and smoked brisket and stuff. So. And then the last people I know if you had a lot of people can’t take the com strap looks and for we’re doing this the golden oldies, which is a rugby team I played for and by rain. I’m an apprenticeship still. Mhm. Always an apprenticeship. My dad died that I believe hopefully. And other family members that diluted from around the United States have laws the globe. My father in law, Paula’s family over there in England and r well, I just said, I can’t believe I’m actually here because I actually didn’t want to be on it. When I grew up when I was a kid, my dad was in the Air Force. I want, I want to get in the Air Force. I want to be a part of. We used to go by the name of the Air Force Academy. I want to go to the Air Force Academy someday. Get in line just listening to the deck of cars. Never considered the army after high school and I got to high school started wearing glasses and it kind of dashed my hopes of being a pirate. Started looking. My dad was kind of steering me towards the navy because you know, so many different options out there. You can be a slow suburb area. There’s a wealth of right before we got the ones I’ve been around is my home with them in the way and you get on sure, kitty hawk a little bit about once he did over the Persian gulf help agents but never thought that I, yeah, staying out of the Euro Species year program. Go to the core cadets in the Navy Marine Corps unit and the ceo of the acceptable marina. Yeah, it’s freshman. The corner called fish and you get paid lot, you know, you’re like boot camp before you actually go to the camera’s yes keeping you in and the in my military and simple. I had a want to tell you what they called the sophomores but the sophomore that was in charge of training me in my room and this is smith. He was a marine a boot camp. You just come back from those before we check orientation to say the least. I really and I thought about ways MS bodily harm to him back town. I’ve ever earlier in the record, get that little girl that walks in here, we’re gonna, you know, it was so very influential but still wasn’t thinking about the end of the morning for all being Marine Advisor, something you may know him. Then captains ruminants retired as a colonel group met on four planes. Sitio marines was our military. I’m walking in class and it’s in the paper. Four hour man. Yes. My dreams of being an aero stations can in here. We’re quickly going down the drain smart as Tony you is narrow, sure, correct. Ah, I wasn’t paying attention and it’s salute as I’m getting. There’s a book tries to pass this part, which was a hopeless cause and he say choose me hold so and again my personal. Okay, well then of course you could be here. My college roommate year, next semester ted Wilson who wasn’t running as well over the next To really about 18 months shaped me positively whatever going down and see those I went down. I saw in here so right on the water, January 201989. What it is my dad that summer and he’s like, what are you gonna do? You know you Yeah, maybe. What your career when we think about doing well four. Yeah, it is. Yes, he said joined the marine quarters like you did. Yeah. So just yes, obviously went to graduated, went to uh, TVs once become that arms and I was a tanker on every stronghold. Yes. And then I did my Jessie’s on my, what the hell is this? Right? You know, that’s what people are going to do. So when to combat engineers. That Tony Harrison check me in going through the process. It was still not my cup of tea. The best job I coulda Horna has a great sadness. CeoS password, cracker bills, staff started gear and stuff, started praying for two sergeants. Your minds that work for me. Show me the roads. I think we’re done still you know now we go in which the FBI college before I decided what Hopefully your mind I didn’t qualify. Still have they want job experiences you prefer we have the masters and so forth. Get this quality. Now I thought maybe I do fly ahead yet often get ain’t addicted the ordinary and decided to go to the FBI like our parents adventure ship. I’ve covered one member that I had C. B. And it was lieutenant hearing home other my parents. He was probably the single most influential person on my life Marine corps. He company commanders hated him because um his goal was to mention. Yes did that very fact I learned you know obviously the six truth with these pants. What supervision is? I agree right now. He’s going you checking that equipment. He expected what he expected? I got the foundation of all. Just get double does from Okay. Yes. Talking about Tony said got augmented piece PCS too. San Jose. That’s what I’ve been working days. I’m giving All right. Yes. What up there And yet alright together sort of standard major cats short gun phone. Please show me the ropes. Show me how to conduct air more operations. Very insane. And then I got orders. I was going to AWS and we’ve got, you know what I want one day I was called right today is a world. What was that missiles and the FBI because I was and I love the FBI. When you start to see on the news, the agency here today. Retired that 99 hardest working people. You meet other memories. The baptist station that I wasn’t planning on being the reserves at all. Some allies linked up with them. Central gentler. You have a 3rd force. My interview. I thought I didn’t have any other skills other than TVs result station. Yeah. In my area was a PTC because he was working as services legislation went down there. He sent me an IOC. That’s the usual. Can say. Yeah, only job never started. Or was my position to keep 25 pro sports when we have promoted today yourself, we promoted majors. Thank you. Congratulations. I’m major service is no longer needed the rest. So was looking for help. Do you know some of you may know Ron johnson for Ron johnson easy and their use in shark attacks and his boston accent. I showed that Cindy is who the hell are you. Well, it was and I didn’t have a job, you know? Well what I was used for me being down there. So I have a job, you know, I want roadblocks. Michael called me numerous the last couple years, the first few years of war and since anything with the great again never happen within june then now Brigadier general barrier is reserve affairs All that is broadcast because amnesty to talk to us. Your eternal no, when you’re first they’re like that. Talking Henry general vereker. So I got a job for you Afghanistan 11. What’s a bad day? Did that? And that kind of just started the career was never going to put it on command. I decided what the hell I’m gonna do is yeah. Did that after a couple of deployments that came back? Yeah. Security guard building a new office year that is all secure has got barbed wire constitute supreme. Every word When you start at 6:00. And they told me you were being punished because you went to the marine. So I’m doing that for a year. And it was a Philips. As the comments liaise. Yeah. House. That salary is diagnosed. Screen people right. Talk to me. So I said in the stuff I get a call from my rebuilt and larry miller said you really want this job and it’s always going on you guys. I job for you task force. Yeah. All of the work like by our rice do that. I was going for a year like so much extended like enough standing at my wife. I came back back in europe. Still miss being around marines. I was impatient. I should have got 1998. Mhm. Won’t be around marina. Mhm. There’s another opportunity. All right. Six. My second time in the first with General Donovan and he was a new commander. So those brains were april’s ripping. And then we one of his engineers where you’ve got back in the record player 16 months came back is going to retire and I get a call from you remember served terrorists looking for his replacement is the island chief. I came out here Starting from zero in December of 2019. And the rain and her awarded. And then I was a free agent said, hey, potentially got a job for you interested as a test definitely vehicle 66 how to do what I did. Yeah, please. Unfortunately the program said over has food and all that. That didn’t happen. And then I thought it was making a female to be able to call up and then generally grow in general. General master bulbs would stay on as chief of staff opportunity that new reserves ever gets and some things are Give me that opportunities. Last two I want to be deployed. I was deported. Law raised the United States serve the opportunity. It really just the theme of my career, Tony highlighted yourself myself just down is that they just very good measure because along the path that good media of seeing. Well, I think we’ve also, well without giving detail work could have easily down actually observes major general Larry. It wasn’t good athletes as a listen friends of kernels, parents more water out of politicians. He near Seoul the car was in his room. You know what the heck Greg. You’re I know data really not talk before too. But sitting listen to Joel. God, General Magro, they do things Washington emulating after been very, very deep and then people I certainly have and I was a special act of seeing that there were times in him and I was in the room, No one at disagreements nine times out of 10 he was right, but we did have some heated arguments about how mhm Marines on the cockpit discipline. It’s still, but he was the right person. I needed that. His type of leadership, I suppose. Yes. Yeah. There’s a theme in my 30 32 years. marine is the great members that I’ve had, right. Nobody is as good as they are. Yeah. On the stage, I knew everybody got places to be then in Lhasa. You know, this down the foundation I got, Yes, that was the base level. Everything sons want him near is they’ll remember it was just a positive. Okay. Yeah. There’s something also as a specialist in the army. Thank you for being so I’ll be around. My plans are when I leave here, I’m going to buy rags and continue my membership of rugby. I’m sure my life is going. They got something to do overtime to say, Well is stupid.
